How to request the refund of the security deposit
If you have ever activated an electricity supply or requested a power increase, you may have paid a security deposit. In this article, we explain what this amount is, why it is refunded, and how you can easily request it from the i-DE Private Area.
When your electricity supply was activated or after a power increase, an amount was charged as a security deposit.
This deposit is linked to the contract signed for the supply point, it is paid only once and is refunded when it is no longer required.
With the entry into force of Royal Decree 88/2026, of 11 February, which approves the General Regulation on the supply, commercialisation and aggregation of electrical energy, distribution companies must refund these amounts to those who paid them at the time.
In the i-DE Private Area you can check whether you have a deposit associated with your contract..
To do so, go to: Contracts / Contract details / Supply point / Recognised rights.
You can request the refund if:
If your electricity contract is active, you do not need to request the refund, as it will be processed automatically through your retailer.
