Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) is the only greenhouse gas that is present in the installations of i-DE. This gas provides excellent electrical insulation and is used widely by manufacturers of switching equipment (switches, switchgear cubicles, etc.).

A Voluntary Agreement has been signed between the Ministry of the Environment, the manufacturers and suppliers of electrical equipment that uses sulphur hexafluoride, and electricity transport and distribution companies, including i-DE, for limiting the emissions of sulphur hexafluoride.

This Voluntary Agreement encompasses a number of actions, including:

  • Standardising the inventory of equipment installed in the national grids.
  • Providing training to the staff responsible for handling equipment containing sulphur hexafluoride and certifying their qualification to carry out this task.
