The electrification of transport through electric vehicles (EVs) and based on a clean electric mix is the most effective, efficient and sustainable way to decarbonise this sector and therefore a long-term strategy for the development of transport electrification is required.
Electrical vehicles are discriminated against much more than other technologies and, therefore, Iberdrola is committed to making efforts aimed at achieving an equal environment.
EVs have the highest energy efficiency of all vehicle propulsion systems, converting 80% or more of the energy stored in the moving battery (in conventional vehicles this efficiency is only 18 to 25%). Despite technological improvements in internal combustion engines, EVs are and will continue to be more efficient. Hence, penetration of EVs in the transport sector should be considered an efficiency measure and may receive funding for energy efficiency targets.
The development of electrical vehicles must go hand in hand with facilitating the deployment of charging points in private buildings, shopping centres, public thoroughfares, etc. In general, the installation of charging points must be a free activity, avoiding administrative procedures that make it difficult to install them.
Anybody should be able to install a charging point in their home or community without regulatory burdens that unnecessarily complicate the installation.
New buildings must have a pre-installation of charging points to facilitate subsequent installation by tenants/owners for all their blocks.
Similarly, there should not be any regulatory barriers on the installation of charging points in shopping centres, public access garages and public roads.
